Giya Kancheli - "Simple Music for Piano" on themes from cinema and theater music

"Simple Music for Piano" is an album that Giya Kancheli compiled from the most expressive and vivid fragments of music he wrote for cinema and theater. The album "Simple Music for Piano" with themes from music for cinema and theater was released in 2009.

The concert program presents not only Giya Kancheli's album "Simple Music for Piano", but also a story about the composer, his work and people who played important roles in the formation of Kancheli's genius.

The performer is Anna Tsagarelli. A bright pianist who graduated from the Moscow Conservatory and postgraduate studies, winner of several international competitions, author of the project about classical music "Musical Inoculation" and creator of her own piano school․

"Simple Music for Piano" is not just a concert of classical music, it is an author's program, immersing into the composer's creative world both by music and words, illustrating the album.

Giya Kancheli (1935-2019) is one of the most significant composers of the turn of the 20th and 21st centuries.  People's Artist of the USSR, winner of the USSR State Prize, the Chaika, Triumph, Nika and many other awards, and holder of the Order of Honor of Georgia. 

The author of numerous symphonic, chamber and vocal works, he is internationally recognized both in professional circles and by the general public. The best orchestras and soloists perform Giya Kancheli's music at the most prestigious venues of the world. 

In parallel with academic genres, Giya Kancheli has composed music for movies and dramatic performances. In total, he has given voice to some 70 films and 40 plays. The most famous among them are Georgi Danelia's films "Mimino", "Kin-dza-dza", "Tears Dropped" and "Do Not Grieve". 

Kancheli also composed music for many performances by the world-famous Georgian director, Robert Sturua.
