In nineteenth-century Montenegro, free mountain communities surrounded by Ottoman forces struggle to preserve their way of life. Morlak, a poet and bishop inspired by the historical figure Petar II Petrović Njegoš, is sent to Naples to recover from tuberculosis. Far from home, he reflects on mortality, identity, and belonging, while his devoted servant fears that his master may die in a foreign land. Through poetic imagery, the film explores exile, memory, and the enduring bond between people and their homeland.
