How to Make a Film? Demo Version | Workshop

You don’t need any previous filmmaking experience. In just three hours, you’ll work with a team to create a real one-minute film.

This hands-on creative workshop takes participants through the entire filmmaking process, from idea to premiere: developing a story, assigning roles within the filmmaking team, shooting the film, and seeing the result on the big screen right away.

You don’t need to know how to write a screenplay, shoot, or edit. All you need is the desire to try filmmaking and work together with others.

What to expect?

Lecture — 60 minutes

We’ll talk about the basics of storytelling and the main stages of filmmaking with Angelina Zemlyanova, founder of Kinolaboratory.

We’ll also learn the fundamentals of shooting from Mikhail Nekrasov, cinematographer and educator at Kinolaboratory.

Teamwork — 30 minutes

We’ll split into teams, come up with several story ideas, and turn one of them into a screenplay.

Choosing the Story — 10 minutes

Each team will present their idea, and together we’ll choose the story we’ll bring to life.

Shooting — 60 minutes

Under the guidance of a professional director and cinematographer, we will:

assign roles within the team
choose the actors
set up the lighting and framing
shoot a film in three shots

Premiere — 10 minutes

We’ll watch the result together and discuss the film.

Hosts

Angelina Zemlyanova — founder of Kinolaboratory, screenwriter and director, with more than 10 years of experience in filmmaking.

Mikhail Nekrasov — cinematographer, gaffer and educator at Kinolaboratory. Cinematographer of 30 Kinolaboratory films, as well as projects for Radiovan and the independent media outlet Novaya Gazeta.

The workshop will be held in Russian.
